Former South Africa player AB de Villiers reckoned that IPL is better than the World Cup. The veteran announced his retirement from international cricket nearly a year ago. Since then, he has been playing various T20 leagues all over the world. After retirement, he returned to the ground in the first edition of the Mzansi Super League (MSL) where he led the Tshwane Spartans. However, he has played for Rangpur Riders earlier in the Bangladesh Premier League, which was led by Mashrafe Mortaza. Even, he was featured in the Pakistan Super League for Lahore Qalandars and currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL.

“Nothing comes close to the IPL, to be honest. I know I am sitting in India and busy playing in the IPL, so it’s easy to say. But I have played in quite a few (tournaments) now across the world. I think it’s better than the World Cup,” De Villiers was quoted as saying in Livemint. He was in all praises for the tournament.

“It’s the most incredible tournament to be part of. It wasn’t always the case. The first five years were nowhere close to where we are now. It’s so intense, so fast, and the following is just incredible,” he added.

Though he started his IPL career, playing for the Delhi franchise, after a few editions, he was brought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore and since then he has become a crucial part of their squad. However, RCB have already eliminated for this season, but AB de Villiers has shown his ability and scored 441 runs in 12 matches at an average of 49. He smashed five half-centuries with a top score of unbeaten 82 against Kings XI Punjab in Bengaluru.
