There is no denying the fact that the internet has become an unsafe place for women as the trolls have no limit and no fear of consequence, but sometimes they stop down to an unimaginable level. The daughter of the former Indian skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, received rape threats online after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a close loss in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

In the comment section of MSD’s Instagram posts, there were several trolls who had no shame in openly putting out rape treats to Ziva. Interestingly, not one, not two but several comments were made in the same vein. All of this, only because CSK lost a match and their skipper happens to be her dad, MS Dhoni.

This online display of hatred against the female sex is the testimony to the increasing rape culture in the real world, where politicians victim-blame a woman who was raped and murdered.

Reacting to the worrying incident, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan also lashed out at the mentality of such people. Irfan took it to Twitter to highlight that cricketers may not able to produce their best performance the field but that doesn’t give anyone the right to give threats to a young child.

He tweeted: “All the players giving their best, sometimes it just doesn’t work but it’s doesn’t give anyone any authority to give a threat to a young child #mentality #respect.”

Several Twitter users are expressing their utmost shock with the incident. In a country where a girl gets raped every 16 minutes, this kind of online threat only perpetuates deep-seated misogyny that refuses to go away. Netizens are calling out these trolls, however, it is very unlikely that it would actually make the trolls stop.
