India’s quest to conquer South Africa at their home in Test cricket continues, and the upcoming tour holds immense significance for skipper Rohit Sharma. With a history of falling short in South Africa, victory this time could elevate Rohit to the highest echelon of Indian cricket stars.
Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that winning the South Africa series would solidify Rohit’s place in Indian cricket history. “If he is able to conquer South Africa, his name will be kept top-most in India’s cricket history as captain and player,” Pathan stated.

He emphasizes the importance of Rohit’s dual role as opener and captain. “He is both an opener and a captain. If you play out the new ball, your other batters will get the chance to shine. That’s why you should remove the shine from the new ball,” he explained.
Irfan Pathan noted Rohit Sharma’s successful preparation and batting in the England Test series in 2021-22, emphasizing the need for similar dedication before facing South Africa.
“He went fully prepared and batted amazingly in the Test series when he went to England. I feel you will see Rohit Sharma preparing with the same passion before he goes. Rohit’s challenge will be to play out the new ball, score his runs and take his team forward,” he said.
