Ishan Kishan is back doing what he does best—setting the cricket field on fire with his explosive batting. The young wicketkeeper-batter from India is currently making waves in England, representing Nottinghamshire in the ongoing County Championship Division One 2025. Adapting to English conditions can be a challenge for even the most seasoned batters, but Ishan has not only embraced the challenge—he’s owned it. In his debut match against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge, the left-hander hammered a blistering 87 off 98 balls, laced with 12 fours and a six. He followed it up with a gritty 77 off 128 deliveries against Somerset in Taunton, where his innings was marked by maturity, patience, and typical flair.

In the match against Somerset, a particular moment stole the spotlight and has since gone viral on social media. Facing seasoned New Zealand pacer Matt Henry with the new ball, Kishan dispatched the very first delivery for a towering six with a powerful sweep shot—an audacious move that stunned the bowler and left the commentators chuckling.

So fierce was the strike that the umpires had to replace the ball. It was a moment that summed up Kishan’s fearless brand of cricket. Thanks to his contribution, Nottinghamshire posted a mammoth 509 in the first innings. However, with both matches against Yorkshire and Somerset ending in draws, Kishan didn’t get a second hit. Despite limited time at the crease, he made a lasting impression in his maiden County stint.

Kishan’s county form is just the latest chapter in a first-class career that continues to grow. He has now scored over 3,500 runs in 60 matches at an average nearing 40, including eight centuries and 19 fifties. While his last appearance for India came in 2023—during the T20I series against Australia—he also featured in that year’s ODI World Cup, and his last Test was against the West Indies.
