Another controversial moment unfolded during the India vs West Indies 1st T20I at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, with Ishan Kishan at the centre of a dramatic third-umpire review. The incident occurred on the fifth delivery of the 11th over of India’s innings. Ishan Kishan appeared to have been dismissed after Matthew Forde completed a sharp diving effort near the boundary.

The initial scorecard even showed Ishan Kishan as caught by Forde before the decision was reviewed and subsequently changed. Facing Shamar Springer, Kishan attempted to play a back-foot shot and sliced the delivery towards deep cover. The ball appeared to be travelling safely towards the fielder, but Forde reacted late and had to make a desperate dive to get to the chance.

Forde managed to get his hands to the ball, but the manner in which he completed the attempt immediately raised questions. As the West Indies fielder landed, it appeared that the ball may have made contact with the ground. There was uncertainty over whether Forde had maintained complete control throughout the catch.

The West Indies players were convinced that the catch was clean and appealed strongly for the dismissal. However, the on-field umpire referred the incident to the third umpire for a closer examination.

After multiple replays, the decision went in Ishan Kishan’s favour, with the batter declared not out. The footage failed to provide enough evidence to overturn the original decision conclusively. The moment added to a series of close calls in the Lucknow T20I and once again highlighted how fine the margins can be when fielders attempt difficult catches close to the boundary.
