Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is expected to miss the first match of the Duleep Trophy 2024, which kicks off on September 5 in Anantapur. Kishan, who was initially set to play for Team D under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, is now uncertain for the opening game due to unspecified reasons.

Recent reports from Cricbuzz suggest that Kishan might be dealing with an injury, although the specifics of this potential issue have not been revealed. This has raised concerns about his availability for the tournament’s initial phase.

The 26-year-old cricketer recently participated in the Buchi Babu tournament in Chennai, where he played for Jharkhand. In this competition, Ishan Kishan delivered a standout performance in his first game, scoring a magnificent 114 runs. However, his subsequent outings were less impressive, with him contributing only one and five runs in his next two innings.

Last season, Ishan Kishan faced disciplinary measures from the national selectors after missing several Ranji Trophy matches despite clear directives from the BCCI to play. The board had emphasized that his chances for national selection hinged on his participation in state-level matches.

Although Ishan Kishan’s appearance in the Buchi Babu tournament was seen as an attempt to fulfill these criteria, it’s important to note that this competition is not classified as a national event. There are also reports suggesting that Sanju Samson, who was not initially included in any of the four teams, might step in to replace Kishan.
