Ishan Kishan, the young Indian cricketer, expressed his gratitude towards captain Rohit Sharma for making him feel comfortable during his first-ever Test series. Having made his Test debut recently, Ishan praised Rohit’s captaincy style for not overwhelming him and having faith in his abilities. In the first Test, Ishan didn’t get much chance to showcase his skills as India declared the innings early, but in the second Test, he impressed everyone with a quickfire half-century.
The 25-year-old batsman scored 25 off 37 balls in the first innings and followed it up with an unbeaten 52 off 34 balls in the second innings. Speaking about Rohit, Ishan mentioned how the experienced captain knows how to handle young players. He observed Rohit’s approach in IPL, ODIs, and T20s, where he follows up with every player and creates a comfortable environment for them, ensuring they don’t feel the pressure.

Kishan said that Rohit has been very supportive of him. “He’s a very experienced captain, knows how to deal with youngsters,” Kishan said. “He told me to trust my own game and not listen to anyone else. That’s a big confidence boost for a youngster.”
Ishan Kishan was promoted up the batting order in the second innings of the second Test. He said that the plan was to nullify the advantage that the West Indies spinners might have had by bowling on the patches on the pitch.

“The plan was to counter the left-arm spinners trying to bowl to right-handers by pitching on the patches,” Ishan Kishan said. “We didn’t plan to bat for long. We already had a good lead, so we wanted to set a target and get them back on the pitch so as to get them all out as quickly as possible. So the plan behind sending me ahead was to play positively and score as many runs as possible in 10 overs.”
Ishan Kishan’s performance in the second Test was a promising start to his Test career. He will be looking to build on this in the future.
