Ishan Kishan’s controversial attempt to dismiss Rovman Powell has sparked a heated debate among fans during the second T20I between India and West Indies in Guyana. India, trailing in the series after their loss in the first T20I, chose to bat first following a toss win by Hardik Pandya. The Indian team faced a shaky start, losing Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav within the powerplay. However, Tilak Varma’s resilient half-century propelled them to a competitive total of 152 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Once again, Varma emerged as India’s highest scorer with 51 off 41 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six. Captain Hardik Pandya contributed a valuable 24 runs.  West Indies responded with a strong bowling performance, with Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, and Romario Shepherd each claiming two wickets.

The West Indies’ chase began poorly, losing Brandon King and Johnson Charles to Hardik Pandya in the opening over. Kyle Mayers also fell during the powerplay.  Nevertheless, Nicholas Pooran’s steady batting kept the West Indies in a respectable position. During the final over of the powerplay, Pooran swung the momentum in favor of the West Indies by smashing his IPL teammate Ravi Bishnoi for 18 runs.

In this context, Ishan Kishan attempted to shift the tide for India, albeit in a controversial manner. In the post-powerplay phase, Yuzvendra Chahal was introduced as a bowler. His first delivery veered wide down the leg side.

Powell tried to glance the ball, but he missed, causing him to lose his balance while keeping his back foot grounded momentarily. Typically, players lift their back foot to regain balance in such situations. Predicting Powell’s movement, Ishan Kishan waited patiently for the batsman to lift his back foot to attempt a stumping. Although Powell briefly lifted his foot, he quickly grounded it before Kishan could make the stumping.

While Ishan Kishan’s actions were within the rules of the game, they have sparked controversy among some fans, prompting various reactions
