James Neesham shared he would have felt a ‘little better’ if he had played for England in the World Cup final.

Neesham was part of the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand side that lost to England in the World Cup 2019 final. The final at Lords was amongst one of the most thrilling finishes ever seen in an ICC tournament. Hosts England took on New Zealand in a final that went into the Super Over where England won based on the boundary count rule.

The result of the match swung like a pendulum until the final ball of the match. IF not for the overthrow that went across the boundary after being hit by Ben Stokes’s bat, New Zealand would have possibly ended on the winning side.  England needed 15 runs off the last over when England got 6 runs off the 2nd ball rather than just 2 with the overthrow adding 4 more runs.

Neesham verdicts, “Minus 50 runs” if he was the umpire and asked to give a decision on the overthrow in the final.

Neesham was also asked to share his best World Cup memory. He responded, “Sitting in the changing room with the guys after the semifinal against India,”
