Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna’s woes with the ball continued on Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston, as England’s Jamie Smith took him apart in a brutal over that yielded 23 runs. It was a tough moment for Krishna, who had already been under the scanner for his lack of control and discipline in the Headingley Test. Unfortunately, his performance in Birmingham hasn’t helped his case either.

Coming into bowl the 32nd over of the England innings, Prasidh began with a tidy dot ball, hitting a good length just outside off stump. Jamie Smith tried to punch it through but failed to beat the fielder at mid-off. However, what followed was a nightmare for the young fast bowler and the Indian team.

Smith launched a calculated assault, smashing the next four deliveries for boundaries — two crisp fours, a towering six, and another cracking shot past the infield. To add to Krishna’s misery, a wide delivery down the leg side ran away to the fence, gifting England five more runs. In total, 23 runs came off that over, providing England with a much-needed boost after the early collapse triggered by Siraj and Akash Deep.

Prasidh Krishna’s over completely released the pressure India had built by reducing England to 84 for 5, especially after the double blow by Mohammed Siraj, who had dismissed Joe Root and Ben Stokes in back-to-back deliveries in the second over of the day.

For Prasidh, this spell may lead to further questions about his place in the XI, particularly when options like Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar are waiting in the wings. With the Test match delicately poised, India will hope Krishna can bounce back quickly, or it may cost them momentum at a crucial stage of the game.
