Jahnvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s latest film, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mahi,’ hit theatres on Friday, May 31, and garnered an impressive INR 6.85 crore at the Indian box office on its opening day. The movie has received widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike, particularly for Jahnvi’s portrayal of a cricketer. Her performance has been lauded for its authenticity, with many praising her batting techniques and stroke-making abilities.
Viewers have especially noted her fluid swing and ability to connect with the ball, sending it effortlessly to the stands. In a recent interview, Jahnvi revealed that her convincing performance as a cricketer was the result of rigorous training under the guidance of Kolkata Knight Riders’ assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar.
She explained that Nayar provided her with formal coaching, training her with the same intensity and methodology he uses for KKR players. Jahnvi even attended a training camp alongside star cricketer Dinesh Karthik, following a program identical to his.

“My coach is actually KKR’s (assistant) coach, Abhishek Nayar. At his training camp, he was training me in the same way he does for an IPL season along with the KKR players. I went to this training camp alongside Dinesh Karthik. And my training program was the same as Karthik’s. We know a lot about street cricket, but the kind of technical form of knowledge required in professional cricket—the understanding of timing the ball, that is what makes it very difficult,” Jahnvi Kapoor shared.
The revelation of Nayar’s involvement has generated a buzz on social media. One user on X (formerly Twitter) praised Nayar’s dual success, stating, “Abhishek Nayar did a perfect job twice in one season,” while sharing a video of Jahnvi discussing her training.
