The premier Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah has now reached the numero uno position in the ICC rankings for ODI bowlers after his match-winning spell of 6 for 19 in the first ODI against England at The Oval on Tuesday. He has taken a leap of three places to occupy the top spot. New Zealand’s Trent Boult is ranked No.2 after sliding down from first place, while Shaheen Afridi of Pakistan slipped down to No.3.
The Indian pacer was on the money during the first ODI against England as he didn’t give a chance to the English batting order. Jason Roy was Bumrah’s first wicket of the day and he got the crucial wicket of Joe Root in the same over. The Indian pacer also sent the dangerous Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone back to the pavilion and ended the day with an impressive six-wicket haul in 7.2 overs while conceding just 19 runs.

England eventually got bundled out for a meager score of 110 runs in 25.2 overs. Jasprit Bumrah received a lot of praise from the fans and the cricketing world, with legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar being the latest. The legendary batter took to Twitter and praised India’s pace attack for their top performance in the first game and hailed Bumrah as ‘phenomenal.’
Sachin Tendulkar tweeted: “The Oval pitch has great bounce but the Indian bowlers bowled the right lengths & that made all the difference. A great bowling performance by India’s pace attack, especially Bumrah who was just phenomenal.”
I've been of the opinion for a while now that Bumrah is the best bowler across formats. It was good to hear @nassercricket agree with me on-air.#ENGvIND
