Jasprit Bumrah once again reminded the cricketing world why he’s considered the finest pacer on the planet. In a rain-affected IPL 2025 clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Bumrah delivered a crucial breakthrough by removing Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill, swinging the momentum firmly in Mumbai Indians’ favour.

Gill, known for his elegance and composure, was unusually cautious during his innings. With dark clouds hovering and a rain break halting play midway, Gill seemed to take a measured approach, likely aiming to anchor the chase and take GT home safely. However, his slow knock created pressure, and his eventual dismissal added to the Titans’ woes.

The GT skipper managed just 43 off 46 balls, striking at under 94—far below his usual standards. Following the rain interruption, Gujarat needed 49 off 36 balls with Gill and Rutherford at the crease. It was a situation tailor-made for Gill to take charge. But the challenge awaiting him was Jasprit Bumrah, who returned with his trademark accuracy and lethal precision.

On the fifth ball of the 15th over, Bumrah bowled a sharp 141.7kph delivery that nipped back in off the seam. Gill, caught flat-footed while trying to glance it to the leg side, misjudged the line and pace. The ball kissed his back leg before rattling the stumps, silencing the Gujarat camp and sparking celebrations in the Mumbai dugout.

Gill’s dismissal also marked a rare low for GT—this was the first time all season that their top three had been dismissed for under 50 runs combined. Despite the underwhelming knock, Gill etched his name into the record books, becoming only the third IPL captain under the age of 26, after Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, to notch up over 500 runs in a season.

It wasn’t Shubman Gill’s best night, but Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliance ensured it would be one he won’t forget.
