Jasprit Bumrah recently shared a light-hearted story from his debut Test series that involved his wife, broadcaster Sanjana Ganesan, leaving everyone in splits. Bumrah, who had already proved himself as a white-ball specialist, earned his Test cap during the 2018 tour of South Africa. In the third Test at Johannesburg, he grabbed headlines by picking up a memorable five-wicket haul that helped India register a famous victory on a challenging pitch.

Speaking on Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra’s YouTube show ‘Who’s The Boss?’, Bumrah revealed how he had planned a little on-field celebration for Sanjana, who was covering the series as a broadcaster. But when the big moment arrived, Sanjana was nowhere to be found in the stands. Laughing, Bumrah teased that she was probably enjoying chai and samosas instead of watching him bowl.

“I still remember, I wanted to make a small gesture for her after taking five wickets, maybe wave or something. But madam was missing! Our own person wasn’t even there, maybe off eating chai-samosa somewhere,” Jasprit Bumrah joked.

Sanjana, however, was quick to counter his version of the story. She clarified that she had momentarily gone inside the media area to watch the celebrations on the big screen since she struggles to see clearly from afar without her spectacles, which she doesn’t usually wear on air.

“That’s not true. I had gone inside to watch it on the screen because I can’t see well without my glasses. There, you can see the facial expressions and celebrations clearly. I didn’t actually see him do anything special on the field. He claims he did, but I honestly missed it!” Sanjana Ganesan explained with a smile.

Bumrah ended that series, which India narrowly lost 2-1, with 14 wickets at an impressive average of 25.21, including that landmark fifer. It marked the beginning of what has turned into a remarkable Test career for Bumrah, who now boasts 210 wickets from 46 Tests, with 14 five-wicket hauls. Since then, he and Sanjana have become one of Indian cricket’s most admired couples, tying the knot in 2021 and welcoming their son Angad in 2023.
