Hanuma Vihari on the other hand made the cut in place of Kohli. KL Rahul has become India’s 34th captain in Tests while Jasprit Bumrah was named his deputy in Kohli’s absence. India has already taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series with a phenomenal performance at the Supersport Park in Centurion.

After Mayank Agarwal departed with 26 runs to his account, India suffered two quick wickets in Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. Both the experienced batters failed to make a larger impact on the game as they walked back to the pavilion rather cheaply.

Rahul and Hanuma Vihari was looking strong in the middle and provided some stability to the team’s batting unit before Kagiso Rabada sent the latter back to the pavilion. Rahul notched up his 13th half-century and stitched up crucial partnerships with his fellow batter, but after his dismissal, Ravichandran Ashwin played a crucial knock of 46 runs off 50 deliveries with six boundaries and helped India from an early collapse.
