India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah provided the perfect start with the ball, dismissing England opener Ben Duckett off the very first delivery of the second ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Thursday. Defending a target of 234, Bumrah wasted no time making an impact. Bowling from over the wicket, he delivered a teasing good-length ball that angled across the left-hander.

Duckett pushed at the delivery away from his body and managed only a thick outside edge, which was comfortably collected by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan behind the stumps. The dismissal sent Duckett back to the pavilion for a golden duck and gave India an early breakthrough. England slipped to 0/1 after the opening ball and were 5/1 after two overs, with Jacob Bethell and Joe Root tasked with rebuilding the innings.

Earlier, India posted 233 in 44 overs after England captain Harry Brook elected to bowl first. Shubman Gill looked in fine touch before scoring 31 off 30 balls, adding 44 runs with Rohit Sharma for the opening wicket. Rohit struggled to find fluency, managing 26 from 47 deliveries, while Ishan Kishan failed to capitalize on his opportunity, scoring just one run.

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings with a crucial 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Kohli struck a composed 65 off 66 balls before departing, while Iyer top-scored with a well-crafted 66 from 71 deliveries.

India then suffered a middle-order collapse as Washington Sundar, Axar Patel and Shivam Dube were dismissed cheaply. However, Bumrah added valuable late runs with an unbeaten 20 off just 13 balls, including three boundaries and a six, helping India post a competitive total.

For England, Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson starred with the ball, claiming three wickets each.
