Englands’s skipper in Test match cricket, Joe Root has been going through a purple patch in his career in recent times. The right-handed batsman stuck to the basics and channelized the aggression in the right direction. More often than not, he has single-handedly carried the team on his shoulders so far in the ongoing Test series.
Root scored a century in the second innings of the first Test match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, but the match ended in a draw. India responded with 298/8 (declared) in the second innings. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 61 whereas Mohammed Shami scored an unbeaten 56* as he made a brilliant unbeaten partnership of 89 runs with Jasprit Bumrah. India set up a target of 272 for the hosts.

As Joe Root played the shot, he got a thick outside edge as the ball went towards the slip. captain Virat Kohli took the catch in his safe pair of hands to dismiss Root.
