With the prospect of a hat-trick of series wins, the excitement among Indian fans is building, while the Australian team is determined to put up a strong fight and make the challenge as formidable as possible. The last encounter between these two cricketing giants was at the final of the World Test Championship, where Australia emerged victorious.

As the series approaches, India is focused on assembling their strongest squad to secure another series win. A key aspect of their preparations involves the availability of their premier fast bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah, who has been resting since the T20 World Cup, is expected to be fit and ready for the series.

On the other hand, Mohammad Shami, who last represented India during the ODI World Cup 2023, is yet to be officially included in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has expressed optimism regarding Shami’s availability, underscoring his importance to the Indian team’s strategy in Australia.

“Our team is already well-prepared. We have rested Jasprit Bumrah for a while now. Mohammad Shami is expected to be fit too. This is an experienced Indian side now. Seniors like Rohit (Sharma) and (Virat) Kohli are fit,” Jay Shah told The Times of India. He emphasized Shami’s experience as a crucial asset, stating, “Shami will be there (in Australia) because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia.”

Meanwhile, Snehasish Ganguly, the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), highlighted that Shami must first prove his fitness by playing in the Ranji Trophy before making his international return. “He (Shami) wants to be on that tour. But he has to play Ranji Trophy to prove himself,” Ganguly remarked to News18. As the series nears, all eyes will be on how these key players prepare and contribute to what is expected to be a thrilling contest between two of Test cricket’s best teams.
