Tensions flared briefly during the opening Test between India and West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, as young pacer Jayden Seales directed a fiery sledge at Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. But Jurel, showing remarkable composure for his age, diffused the moment with nothing more than a calm smile, winning plenty of admiration from fans.

India has thoroughly dominated the contest itself. After bowling out the visitors for just 161 runs in the first innings, the hosts piled on the pressure with the bat. KL Rahul led the charge, bringing up his 11th Test century — his first at home in nine years — before falling shortly after. His innings, however, laid the perfect foundation for India to seize complete control.

Following Rahul’s dismissal, Jurel joined forces with Ravindra Jadeja to steady the innings further. The flashpoint arrived in the 79th over when Jurel missed a flick and was struck on the pad. The West Indies camp appealed vigorously and even sent it upstairs, but ball-tracking confirmed the umpire’s call as the ball was sliding down leg.

Jayden Seales, clearly frustrated, unleashed a few words at Jurel on the very next delivery. Unfazed, the young batter responded only with a wide grin, showing maturity well beyond his years.

Earlier, India’s top order had set the tone. KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill combined for a crucial stand, both registering fifties before Gill fell to his opposite number.
KL Rahul, however, showcased patience and class, notching a memorable hundred under subcontinental conditions. His knock, coupled with Jurel’s resilience, has put India in firm control of the contest, underlining their dominance over the Caribbean side in this opening clash.
