Following India’s thumping 78-run win over UAE at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Rodrigues was seen having an impromptu jamming session with a group of youngsters. The sweet video of the incident has gone viral and was widely shared and praised on social media, as many fans admired her down-to-earth approachable attitude.

The Women in Blue got the campaign going at the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 by beating arch-rivals Pakistan by seven wickets. Harmanpreet Kaur and her women quite easily swept away the target of 109 runs, winning with 35 balls remaining. Deepti Sharma claimed 3 wickets for 20 runs in her four overs and took Player of the Match.

The seven-time champions posted their first-ever 200-plus total in the format of T20 cricket in their following game against the UAE. Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh scored explosive half-centuries to take the team to 201/5 in their 20 overs. In reply, the UAE could only go as far as 123/7. Richa Ghosh was adjudged the Player of the Match for her brilliant unbeaten knock of 64 runs off 29 balls.

India has now pulled itself to the verge of a semi-final spot by winning its first two matches convincingly. On Tuesday, July 23, the final group-stage match against Nepal will be played in Dambulla, where they look forward to further sustaining the momentum and going one step beyond.
