Jemimah Rodrigues produced a moment of sheer brilliance during the penultimate delivery of the 18th over in Gujarat Giants Women’s innings against Delhi Capitals Women in Match 17 of WPL 2025. Her spectacular effort in the field left the crowd at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow in absolute awe, highlighting the intensity of the high-stakes clash.

With Gujarat needing 32 runs off the final 18 deliveries to chase down DC Women’s 178-run target, Deandra Dottin had started the over aggressively. Looking to capitalize further, she attempted another big hit off a slightly flighted delivery from Jess Jonassen. However, the timing wasn’t quite right, and the ball soared towards deep mid-wicket.

That’s when Rodrigues made her move—charging in from the boundary, she dived forward full-stretch, inches above the turf, and pulled off a breathtaking catch. The dismissal came at a crucial juncture, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to deny Gujarat a well-earned victory. Gujarat Giants successfully chased down the target, winning the game by five wickets with three balls to spare.

The star of the run chase was Harleen Deol, who played a masterclass knock, anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 70 off 49 deliveries. Her composed and fluent batting ensured Gujarat stayed in control, and she rightfully earned the Player of the Match award for her efforts.
Interestingly, the highest individual score of the match came from Delhi Capitals’ captain, Meg Lanning, who delivered a stunning innings of 92 off just 57 balls. Lanning’s authoritative knock included 15 boundaries and a six, but with minimal support from her teammates—except for Shafali Verma—Delhi fell short of a more imposing total.

With this win, Gujarat Giants notched up their fourth victory of WPL 2025, propelling them to second place on the points table with a superior net run rate of +0.334, edging past Mumbai Indians Women (+0.267). However, this result all but ended the playoff hopes of UP Warriorz Women, leaving them with a near-impossible path to qualification.
