Jhulan Goswami’s Heel Injury Bars Her From Playing The T20I Series

The veteran Indian pace bowler Jhulan Goswami has been ruled out of the five-match T20I series against South Africa after suffering a heel injury. She has been advised to takes rest for at least two weeks, Jhulan will consult a foot specialist before undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

According to the release given by BCCI, which stated, “Ms. Goswami suffered a heel injury and underwent an MRI scan on Monday, February 12, 2018. The BCCI Medical Team in consultation with a local doctor felt that she needs rest for a couple of weeks to avoid any further impact on the bone. Upon her return, Ms. Goswami will consult a foot expert and will undergo her rehab process at the NCA in Bengaluru.”

Jhulan, who recently became the first woman bowler to reach the ODI feat of picking as many as 200 wickets, was the second highest wicket-taker during India’s 2-1 ODI series triumph. The series win lifted India to the second spot in the ICC Women’s Championship.

The T20I series against South Africa is scheduled to commence on February 13, while the last match of the series will be played on February 24. India’s next international assignment is against Australia, with the first of three ICC Women’s Championship matches beginning on March 12.

Goswami was rested in the final match of three-match ODI series and in her absence, the Indian bowling attack required sting in the last match as Mignon du Preez scored a powerful 90 to pull off a consolation win for South Africa.

The ODI series triumph was negated slightly by a loss in the third ODI but that would hardly scratch the Indian women’s cricket team’s attitude as it heads into a five-game Twenty20 rubber against South Africa, starting in Potchefstroom on Tuesday.

After dominating victories in the first two ODIs, Indian women lost by seven wickets in the third ODI last Friday. The loss, however, hardly made any difference as the Indians had pocketed the three-ODI series by 2-1 then.

It is a busy calendar for India as they will be hosting Australia and England in a T20I tri-series in March, followed by three ODIs against England at home.
