Yet another final and yet another heartbreak for New Zealand as they failed to win their maiden T20 World Cup title. The Kiwis were brilliant throughout the competition and reached the finals, contrary to many expectations. However, they couldn’t beat their Trans-Tasman rivals Australia in the much-awaited final and suffered an eight-wicket defeat.

Needless to mention, the New Zealand camp would be disappointed as they have witnessed their third loss in ICC event finals since 2015. However, it seems like all-rounder Jimmy Neesham isn’t going to grief over the loss for long. The southpaw now has his eye on the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be taking place in Australia. Following New Zealand’s defeat in the final clash, Neesham took to Twitter and made a cryptic post.

Jimmy Neesham tweeted, “335 days.” While many netizens couldn’t figure out the context, several pointed out that Neesham is referring to the next edition of the T20 World Cup in 2022. For the unversed, the gala event will be commencing on October 16 next year, exactly 335 days after this year’s T20 World Cup final. Hence, Neesham has started the countdown.

It’s pretty evident Neesham wants to take New Zealand to glory next year and it would be interesting to see whether his aim gets accomplished or not. Meanwhile, Neesham is of the belief that ‘it’s not done till it’s done.’ While the New Zealand dug-out went berserk following their thrilling win over Pakistan in the semi-final clash, the swashbuckling all-rounder didn’t move an inch from his seat. Even his expressions didn’t change.

Neesham later revealed that he would celebrate only after New Zealand wins their maiden T20 World Cup. Jimmy Neesham said, “It’s a situation worthy of celebrating I guess – winning a semi-final – but you don’t come halfway around the world just to win a semi-final.” Meanwhile, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson expressed disappointment after the loss. However, he also lauded his team for their consistent performance.

Kane Williamson said, “Really proud of our team’s efforts throughout. Came here in the final and gave it our best shot but it wasn’t enough. Conditions varied a lot from venue to venue but we adjusted well. Nice to get to the big dance.”
