Joe Root Reaches To Second Spot In Test Rankings After Lord’s Ton

England Test captain Joe Root has gained a massive boost towards the number 1 spot in Test rankings of batsmen after his century in the Lord’s Test against India. He was at number five when the Test series against India started but has reached number two just after two matches into the series.

Kane Williamson is currently sitting on top with 901 points while Root is closely following him with 893 points. Steve Smith has dropped to number three with 891 points.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli managed to cling on his fifth place but fellow teammate Rohit Sharma is breathing down his neck at number six and is only three points behind Kohli’s 776. Rishabh Pant is placed seventh with 736 points.

KL Rahul put a man of the match performance at Lord’s with a sparkling hundred on the opening day of the Test. He rose 19 places to reach the 37th spot after his 129-run knock against England. His career-best ranking came in November 2017 when he peaked at eighth place.

The latest ranking update involved the recent Test between West Indies and Pakistan. The hosts held their nerves to win the Jamaica Test by a narrow margin of one wicket.

Babar Azam scored 30 and 55 in the Test and gained two places to reach number eight. Meanwhile, Faheem Ashraf and Fawad Alam gained four spots each to reach 48th and 55th place respectively.

West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder entered into the top-10 for bowlers after taking four wickets in the match. He climbed two places to reach ninth. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah fell to number 10 despite performing well in the Lord’s Test. James Anderson gained one place to reach sixth displacing South African pacer Kagiso Rabada.
