After a thrilling 31-run victory in the first Test of ongoing five-match Test series at Edgbaston (Birmingham), England claimed a massive victory (won by an innings and 159 runs) against India in the second Test of the series at Lord’s. While they are leading the series by 2-0, England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow believes that it is too early to think the series result in 5-0 for them.

Currently, Bairstow is one of the most inform batsmen of England cricket team. After scoring 70 and 28 runs in the first Test at Edgbaston, he just missed a well-deserving century (93) at Lord’s. While the English bowlers are dominating over the Indian batsmen in the ongoing Test series, Bairstow still believes that the no.1 Test team India can make a comeback in this series and that’s why he feels the 5-0 victory for England in this Test series is a too early dream at present.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Bairstow said, “Yes, we have exploited the conditions and we know how to play in home conditions, but I do not think you can say that India are vulnerable. They are the number one side in the world for a reason and there is a lot of cricket still to be played in the series.

“It is too early to be talking about 5-0. The weather could get hot again, the pitches at Southampton and the Oval could be dry. We definitely will not be taking our foot off the pedal.”

After the end of the Lord’s Test, the English Test captain Joe Root claimed that the 5-0 victory in this Test series would be a dream. While Bairstow has supported that, he also said that they need to focus on the present situation.

Bairstow said, “Obviously, that would be the dream — to put in five complete performances and have five wins. But it’s important we don’t get complacent, arrogant, or look too far ahead.”

English all-rounder Ben Stokes has been added to the squad for the upcoming third Test at Trent Bridge (Nottingham), starting from this Saturday (August 18), after he has been found not guilty in a brawl outside a Bristol nightclub last September.

Bairstow is very happy with the latest verdict and hopes to see him back in the English jersey very soon. The all-rounder bowled impressively in the fourth innings of the first Test at Edgbaston that helped the English team to clinch a thrilling victory.

The wicketkeeper-batsman said on Stokes, “I’m really happy that the verdict has come out as it has for English cricket. It’s big for him. It’s been a long 10 months for him, for his family. (I’m) delighted and hopefully we can see him back in an England shirt very, very soon because we saw the impact that he had at Edgbaston only a couple of weeks ago in the first Test.”
