Indian athletes are leaving no stone unturned to make the country proud in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2021. Meanwhile, Kamalpreet Kaur etched her name in the record books on Sunday as the Indian Discus thrower made the country proud by becoming the second Indian woman to enter the Olympic finals. Earlier, Krishna Poonia ended up in sixth place in the discus throw at the 2012 London Olympics.
So far, only three Indian players have managed to reach the Discus Throw finals in the Olympics so far. Meanwhile, Kamalpreet Kaur became the third Indian athlete to achieve the feat. Kamalpreet Kaur hogged the limelight when she threw the Discus 64m far and qualified for the
Unfortunately, Kamalpreet Kaur fouled the next throw. She gave the best shot in her third attempt i.e. 63.70m. In the end, she was among the top 8 finalists out of the total of 12. As a result, she finished 6th, but her 63.70m throw in the final was the best ever by any Indian woman in the Olympics.

Kamalpreet Kaur even beat Krishna Poonia’s 63.62m throw in the 2012 London Olympics. Earlier, in June, in an exclusive interview with The Bridge, the woman athlete said she went into depression in 2020. She added that she was thinking of quitting Discus Throw only to focus all her energies on Cricket. In fact, she had also started practicing cricket last year. She made her stance clear that she wants to play cricket in the future.

During the interview, Kamalpreet Kaur said, “I had reached a point wherein I felt like leaving discus throw altogether and focus all my energies on cricket. In fact, I had even started practicing cricket and left training discus. I played Cricket with my cousins and children nearby in my village. Enjoyed playing cricket since childhood.”

Kaur confessed that she likes cricket and likes to bat as well. She also explained why she would get injured if she starts to bowl. Due to a different action as compared to that of Discus throw, there will always be chances of an injury. So, she would bat in the first place.
