Kamindu Mendis delivered one of the standout moments of IPL 2025 with a breathtaking catch that brought Dewald Brevis’ promising debut innings to a sudden halt. The Sri Lankan all-rounder pulled off this stunning effort during SunRisers Hyderabad’s clash against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Friday, April 25 — a moment that could easily feature among the best catches of the tournament.

Fielding at long-off, Mendis showed exceptional athleticism and presence of mind. Brevis, who was batting fluently on 42, looked to launch Harshal Patel for another six in the 13th over, having earlier dispatched Mendis himself for three maximums in an over. This time, however, his flat, fierce shot headed toward the deep cover region — and that’s where Mendis’ brilliance came alive.

He sprinted a significant distance from long-on, keeping his eyes locked on the ball, and launched into a full-stretch dive. Opting for a secure two-handed grab instead of a flashier one-handed attempt, he completed the catch cleanly, managing to keep the ball from brushing the turf even as he tumbled across the outfield. He rose quickly, proudly displaying the ball in his palm — a confirmation as emphatic as the umpire’s signal that followed.
Only a catch like that could’ve stopped that cameo from Brevis! 🤯

Brevis, who had injected life into a faltering CSK innings with his attacking intent, was visibly disappointed. The Proteas youngster walked off for a well-made 42 off just 25 balls, laced with one four and four sixes — including his trademark no-look maximum. At the time of his dismissal, CSK were 118/6 in the 14th over, and the innings soon unravelled further.

Ayush Mhatre had earlier shown promise with a quickfire 30 off 19 in the powerplay, but the rest of CSK’s batting struggled. Sam Curran (9), Ravindra Jadeja (21), and Shivam Dube (12) couldn’t capitalise on starts. Even MS Dhoni, who entered in the 14th over, couldn’t rescue the innings, managing just 6 off 10 before falling in the 17th over. Mendis’ moment of brilliance turned the tide firmly in SRH’s favour.
