Legendary Indian all-rounder, Kapil Dev reckons that the batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar failed to master the art of scoring double hundreds and triple hundreds despite knowing how to score centuries. Kapil Dev said that he had never seen someone as talented as Sachin but former India skipper failed to become a ruthless batsman.

Tendulkar’s international career ended after him scoring 34,357 runs in all the formats — 15,921 in 200 Tests, 18426 in 463 ODIs and 10 in 1 T20 international. He holds the record of becoming the first batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs when he struck 200 not out off 147 balls against South Africa in Gwalior on February 24, 2010.

However, Tendulkar only managed to score six Test double centuries and was ranked 12th in the list of batsmen with most 200s.

Talking about the same during a recent chat with WV Raman, Kapil said, “Sachin had so much talent that I hadn’t seen it in anyone. He knew how to score hundreds but he never became a ruthless batsman. Sachin had everything in cricket. He knew how to score hundreds but didn’t know how to convert those hundreds into 200s and 300s.”

Kapil Dev also said that a player of Sachin’s stature possessed the capability of scoring more double hundreds and triple hundreds in his career.

The legendary all-rounder elaborated, “Sachin should have made five triple centuries and another 10 double tons because he could hit fast bowlers and spinners for a boundary every over.”

He further explained, “Since he was from Mumbai they had a mindset of when you score a hundred make a line and start from zero again. And that’s where I said no, you are such a ruthless cricketer, bowlers should fear you. Sachin’s talent was par excellence. But after a scoring a hundred he used to take singles and didn’t become ruthless.”
