India’s recent Test series in England will be remembered as one of the most fiercely contested battles in recent years. The five-match showdown ended in a 2-2 draw, with India sealing the decider in thrilling fashion — a record six-run victory on the fifth morning of the final Test at The Oval. While the cricketing world was buzzing with standout performances, one viral moment stole headlines for all the wrong reasons — an alleged clip showing Karun Nair in tears, comforted by teammate KL Rahul.

The truth? It never happened. Speaking to Insidesport, Karun Nair clarified the viral footage was AI-generated. “I think that was an AI-generated video,” he said. “We were sitting together on the balcony, yes, but after that, everything shown was not real.”

Nair’s return to international cricket came after a long eight-year wait. While his personal outing didn’t quite match the fairytale comeback script, he cherished spending time with his Karnataka teammates KL Rahul and Prasidh Krishna.

“It was great to have Prasidh and KL with me. We had a lot of fun over the past two months — talking cricket, catching up, and just enjoying being part of the team again. Ending the series on a high made it all the more special,” he reflected.

Looking back at the series, Nair believes the final 2-2 result was fair to both sides. “Honestly, it was a hard-fought contest between two top teams. From our perspective, losing the series would have been disappointing because we played at a very high level and deserved to be closer in the scoreline,” he explained.

He credited India’s success to belief and unity in the dressing room. “We always knew that one wicket could shift the momentum either way. The bowlers, the fielders, everyone supported each other. The fight, the never-give-up attitude — it was incredible to be a part of,” Nair said.

While his comeback chapter is still being written, Karun Nair’s clarity on the AI clip and his insights into the series remind fans that, beyond the noise of social media, cricket’s true story lies in the grit, camaraderie, and belief that define the game.
