Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has once again found himself in the spotlight after joking that he would love to become a mentor for the Chennai Super Kings. In a light-hearted response to a fan’s post on social media, Pietersen said Chennai would be a convenient base because it is closer to the Maldives, a cheeky reference to his well-known holiday during IPL 2025.

The remark came after a CSK supporter urged the franchise to bring Kevin Pietersen back into the IPL setup as a mentor. With the Chennai Super Kings still searching for their first win in IPL 2026 after three straight defeats, the tweet quickly gained attention online.

“Dear @ChennaiIPL, please bring @KP24 as a Mentor,” the fan wrote. Kevin Pietersen replied with his trademark wit: “Yes, please. It is closerto the  Maldives. Easier travel for me.”

Kevin Pietersen was previously appointed mentor of the Delhi Capitals during IPL 2025, but his mid-season trip to the Maldives became a talking point throughout the campaign. The issue even led to several playful jabs from KL Rahul inside the DC camp.

The former England batter has a long history in the Indian Premier League. He made his debut in 2009 with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru after being bought for a then-record US$1.5 million. However, that stint did not quite go as planned, with Pietersen scoring just 93 runs in six matches.

He later found better success with the Delhi Daredevils. In IPL 2014, after being handed the captaincy, Kevin Pietersen enjoyed his most productive season in the league, scoring 305 runs at a strike rate of 147, including a memorable unbeaten century. Pietersen now works as an IPL commentator, but his latest comment has once again sparked conversation about whether CSK would ever consider him for a support role.
