Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders have strengthened their pace attack ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season by signing Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. The Bangladesh left-arm pacer was released by the franchise amid the ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh, prompting KKR to look for an alternative overseas pace option before the new season begins on March 28.

In an official statement, the franchise highlighted Muzarabani’s growing reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s leading T20 bowlers. Standing at 6 ft 8 inches, the right-arm quick is known for generating steep bounce and troubling batters with his pace, especially during crucial phases of an innings.

“Muzarabani has emerged as one of Zimbabwe’s leading pace bowlers in the shortest format. His ability to generate bounce and deliver breakthroughs at key moments adds valuable depth to our bowling attack,” the franchise noted.

The Zimbabwean pacer brings significant T20 experience to the squad. Across more than 80 T20 Internationals, he has taken over 90 wickets at an impressive average of around 21, with best bowling figures of 3/8. His performances in global leagues and international cricket have steadily built his reputation as a reliable wicket-taking option.

Muzarabani was also part of the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where he delivered a standout campaign. The tall pacer picked up 13 wickets during the tournament and earned a place in the ICC Team of the Tournament. One of his most memorable performances came against Australia national cricket team, where he registered impressive figures of 4/17.

KKR will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 29. After the opening fixture, the team will return to their home ground, the iconic Eden Gardens, for three consecutive matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.

Led by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR will be eager to bounce back after a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, where they finished eighth in the standings with just five wins.
