The Ekana Cricket Stadium, typically the home ground of IPL team Lucknow Super Giants, took on a vibrant yellow hue on Friday night. The sea of yellow jerseys filling the stands might have fooled one into thinking they were at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, such is the fervour for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), particularly their iconic leader, MS Dhoni.

Wherever CSK plays, it seems to become an unofficial home venue, thanks to Dhoni’s immense popularity. The unmistakable excitement among the crowd was palpable when CSK lost their sixth wicket, and the anticipation soared as Dhoni made his way down the stairs, ready to take his place on the field.

MS Dhoni’s mere presence has a profound effect not only on the fans but also on the opposition bowlers, as noted by LSG captain KL Rahul, who described Dhoni’s entry as ‘intimidating’ and capable of putting bowlers under pressure.

“MSD walks in and the bowlers feel intimidated,” remarked KL Rahul during the post-match presentation. “He walks in, and bowlers were under pressure, the crowd was really loud, he has done it in the past.”

True to expectations, Dhoni didn’t disappoint. Despite facing just nine deliveries, he made a significant impact, smashing three fours and two sixes in an unbeaten cameo of 28 runs, lifting CSK to a commanding total. This display marked his second consecutive blazing cameo in IPL 2024, showcasing his enduring prowess at the age of nearing 43.
