KL Rahul Dropped For Test Squad, Shubman Gill Receives A Maiden Call-up

After dominating West Indies, Virat Kohli and his men will be locking horns with South Africa for a three-match Test series. Despite their convincing win against West Indies, there were few areas of concerns which the selectors before electing the squad for the series. However, Shubman Gill has been rewarded for his good form recently that saw him score plenty of runs for India ‘A’.

Gill has replaced KL Rahul, who didn’t have a good outing in West Indies. Gill has earlier expressed his disappointment finding a place into any of the three teams traveling for West Indies but his time has finally come now. With Rahul being dropped there are now chances that Rohit Sharma will open the innings with Mayank Agarwal.

As compared to the squad which toured West Indies, apart from exclusion of Rahul, Umesh Yadav has also been dropped with the rest of the squad remains the same.

The veterans like Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have held their place in the star-studded middle-order. Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant have been picked as the wicketkeepers. Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja will be performing the spin. Hanuma Vihari has also been retained with fast bowling department consisting of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma.
