The light-hearted banter between KL Rahul and Delhi Capitals mentor Kevin Pietersen has become one of the most delightful storylines of IPL 2025. Their playful exchanges, filled with jabs and genuine camaraderie, have added an extra dose of entertainment to DC’s strong campaign so far. The latest chapter of their friendly feud unfolded after Delhi’s clinical win over Lucknow Super Giants on April 22 in Lucknow.

Rahul, who guided the team home with a calm and classy 57 off 42 balls, was awarded the Player of the Match medal in the dressing room. But in a cheeky moment, he gestured toward the team management, insisting he’d only accept the medal if it came from Pietersen. The former England skipper, momentarily caught off guard, shared a laugh and obliged with a smile, underlining the fun dynamic between the two.

This isn’t the first time Rahul has taken a playful dig at Pietersen. Earlier in the season, Rahul threw back a jibe at KP’s past remark comparing Rahul’s batting to watching paint dry. That clip went viral following DC’s win over Chennai Super Kings.

The banter continued when Rahul poked fun at Pietersen’s brief getaway to the Maldives, quipping during a light moment with Shubman Gill that taking two weeks off mid-season must be part of the mentor’s job profile. On the field, Rahul’s composure has been just as impressive. Against LSG, he anchored the chase beautifully, crafting a 69-run partnership with Abhishek Porel, who struck a fluent 51.

KL Rahul’s smart shot selection and steady presence ensured there were no hiccups. Axar Patel chipped in with a quickfire 34 off 20 balls to finish things off as DC hunted down the 160-run target in just 17.5 overs.

The emphatic win lifted Delhi Capitals to second place on the IPL 2025 table, tied with Gujarat Titans on 12 points but trailing on net run rate. With momentum on their side, DC will aim to consolidate their position when they take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, April 27.
