Former Indian skipper, Kris Srikkanth has come in support of the Indian players, saying that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) needs to take account of mental fatigue scheduling the games for the senior national team. Srikkanth’s comments came after Jasprit Bumrah highlighted that bio-bubble fatigue does play a role in players’ minds especially after having spent close 6 months away from home ahead of the T20 World Cup.

The premier Indian pacer said players don’t focus too much on it when they step out on the field for the country but it’s hard to handle the workload especially in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Kris Srikkanth said he backs the Indian players and added that it’s high time the board takes care of them amid the new normal in the pandemic.

In his latest social media post, Kris Srikanth said, “I totally back the players, mental fatigue is a real thing and it’s high time @BCCI looks into their scheduling and makes sure they take care of all the players, I back the Indian players and it’s high time we take care of them!”

India’s Test specialists have been on the road since the World Test Championship final in June. While they got a 4-week break between the WTC final and the 5-Test series in England, India players stayed in controlled environments. Immediately after the Test series, India players headed to the UAE to feature in the second half of IPL 2021 after it was suspended in May due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Talking about the small gap between IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup in UAE, Jasprit Bumrah said, “Absolutely, you need a break. Sometimes you miss your family after being on the road for 6 months. All of that sometimes plays on the back of your mind. But when you are on the field, you don’t think about all of those things. You don’t control all of those things the scheduling and all and what tournament is played when.”
