Former cricketer Kris Srikkanth expressed his dismay as Rinku Singh, despite his notable contributions, missed out on a spot in India’s 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup. Singh, known for his explosive batting, boasts an impressive T20I record, with 356 runs at a remarkable average of 89 and a striking rate of 176.23 in 15 matches.

Singh’s exclusion came as a surprise, especially considering his promising form ahead of the IPL. Initially touted as a potential playing XI member, he now finds himself as part of the travelling reserve. Srikkanth criticized the decision, highlighting Singh’s pivotal innings against South Africa and his significant partnership with Rohit Sharma against Afghanistan earlier in the year.

“Rinku has played match-winning knocks in South Africa. Remember the game against Afghanistan, where Rohit scored a hundred? India were 22 for 4, and from there, they scored 212. Rinku played a crucial knock. He has given his all whenever he played for India. This is rubbish, rubbish selection,” Kris Srikkanth expressed his disappointment on his YouTube channel.

He questioned the necessity of including four spinners in the squad and accused the selectors of making Singh a scapegoat to accommodate other players. Srikkanth emphasized Singh’s consistent performances in international cricket and argued that dropping Yashasvi Jaiswal instead would have been a fairer decision.

“I am not at all happy. Rinku Singh has been spoken about all over the world. He has performed in each and every opportunity he has got. How can you drop Rinku Singh? You drop anyone else, it doesn’t matter. In my view, Rinku Singh should have been there, even if that meant you had to drop Yashasvi Jaiswal,” he remarked.

Despite the setback, Singh’s fans hope that his resilience and talent will pave the way for future opportunities in the national team.
