Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has advised Michael Hussey against joining Stephen Fleming’s coaching staff with England, insisting that the former Australia batter should continue his association with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Hussey has served as CSK’s batting coach since 2018, working closely with Fleming during their successful stint together. However, Fleming recently ended his 18-year association with the franchise after being appointed England’s new Test head coach.

Reports have subsequently linked Hussey with a potential role as England’s batting coach. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Cheeky Cheeka, Kris Srikkanth urged Hussey to remain with CSK rather than follow Fleming to England. “I would advise Michael Hussey not to make that mistake.”

Srikkanth believes Hussey has an important role to play at CSK and suggested that the franchise would continue to value his contribution. He also joked about Fleming potentially trying to bring Hussey into his New England setup.

During Hussey’s tenure as CSK’s batting coach, the franchise won three IPL titles in his first six seasons. However, CSK has struggled in recent years, missing the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. Fleming’s departure has now triggered speculation about who could take charge of the team, with Hussey himself reportedly among the possible candidates.

Srikkanth, however, does not appear convinced by the idea of appointing former England captain Eoin Morgan as CSK’s next head coach. While Morgan led England to their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2019, he has limited coaching experience at the international or IPL level. “He’s a very nice person, but just because he’s a good guy, he can’t be made the coach,” Srikkanth said.

The former India opener also questioned the possibility of CSK appointing Hemang Badani as their next head coach. Badani has been in charge of Delhi Capitals since IPL 2025, but the franchise failed to reach the playoffs in both seasons under him.

Kris Srikkanth believes CSK should instead consider relatively lesser-known Indian coaching candidates as they look to rebuild following Fleming’s exit. “With Badani as head coach, CSK will go nowhere.” CSK now face an important decision over Fleming’s successor. The franchise will need to find a coach capable of handling the transition while maintaining the team’s identity and rebuilding a squad that has struggled to replicate its previous IPL success.
