The One-Day International series between New Zealand and India quite one-sided as the visitors were running miles ahead of the hosts. The fourth ODI at Hamilton was an aberration but rest of the games saw a total dominance by the Indians. However, things are not the same in the T20I leg of this tour. New Zealand started the series with a bang and gave India a reality check as they tasted their own medicine of ruthlessness.

Krunal Pandya grabbed one wicket in the first T20I

Kiwi batsmen showed no mercy to Indian bowlers and hit 14 fours along with as many sixes. Tim Seifert was the main destructor with a 43-ball 84-run innings, which includes seven fours and six towering sixes. He was grabbing all the attention with the bat during the first innings. However, another incident during the first innings involves him but this time it was not about his batting.

Seifert was questioned for obstructing the field during the ninth over of New Zealand innings. Krunal Pandya was bowling the over and provided India their first breakthrough by dismissing Colin Munro on the second ball. Skipper Kane Williamson came to bat and Krunal found his edge on the fifth ball of the over. The ball lobed towards the non-striker’s end and Krunal made a desperate dive to complete a tough looking catch. But he failed to even touch the ball as Seifert was standing in middle of them.

He soon started to appeal against Seifert for obstructing the field but on-field umpire offered no response. Krunal looked furious but completed his successful over. As Seifert was standing on his ground and didn’t come in the way intentionally, umpire ignored the appeal.

New Zealand posted a massive total of 219/6 in 20 overs, where Seifert was top scorer. Indian batsmen were never in this chase and got bundled out for 139 in 19.2 overs. Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/17 while all the other bowlers also contributed with regular wickets. India lost the game by 80 runs and is 0-1 down in the three-match T20I series. The next game will be played on February 8 in Auckland.
