England faced a tough challenge in their World Cup match against India as Kuldeep Yadav clean-bowled Jos Buttler in the 16th over, leaving England five wickets down. India’s star pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, had already dealt quick blows to England, each taking two wickets. Bumrah’s devastating spell saw him take two successive wickets in the 5th over, dismissing Dawid Malan and Joe Root.

Mohammed Shami followed up by removing Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow in the 8th and 10th over, respectively. India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, played a remarkable innings on a challenging pitch where most Indian batters struggled. The Indian team managed to score 229 for nine despite Rohit’s efforts.
Here is the video of the magical delivery from Kuldeep Yadav:
For the first time in the tournament, India had the opportunity to set a target, but only Rohit (87 off 101) and Suryakumar Yadav (49 off 47) managed to find their rhythm on a two-paced wicket, while others struggled. The partnership between Rohit and KL Rahul (39 off 58) steadied the innings after India lost their top-order batsmen, reaching 40 for three in the 12th over.

Rohit Sharmalater added 33 crucial runs with Suryakumar, but his dismissal led to a series of wickets. England’s bowling attack, led by Chris Woakes (2/33) and leg-spinner Adil Rashid (2/35), showed their prowess in the middle overs. David Willey (3/45) was also effective. The relaid red soil pitch demanded a strategic approach, and Rohit led by example. He overcame a challenging start, smashing Willey for two sixes and a four after six dot balls in the opening over.
However, Virat Kohli (0 off 9 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (4 off 16) struggled and were dismissed early in their innings. Kohli was out for a rare duck, mistiming a shot to Ben Stokes at mid-off while trying to replicate Rohit’s aggressive approach. Shreyas fell to a well-placed short ball from Woakes.

With three wickets down for just 40 runs, the onus was on Rohit to anchor the innings, and he did so with remarkable skill and finesse. He showcased his artistry against the spin trio of Rashid, Liam Livingstone, and Moeen Ali, employing various shots to gather boundaries. His pick-up shot off Mark Wood for a six was a highlight.
