The owner of Rising Pune Super Giants, Sanjiv Goenka has received a phone call from former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, who asked him to buy the Rajasthan Royals.

RPS has completed its tenure in the Indian Premier League with its 2017 edition and now they will make a way for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royal, who got suspended in 2015. Now, Goenka was keen to stay in the IPL setup and was in talks with Royals’ co-owner Manoj Badale.

Sources revealed that Lalit Modi called him for the same, but he dropped the idea of buying the team after his call. Goenka informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India, who has banned Modi for a lifetime, about this call.

A top BCCI official confirmed the same to TOI and said “The RPSG group did an excellent job with their team last year. Their management was top class and that is why their coming into IPL again this season was important. But they don’t want to get into controversial deals handled by Modi. The group is still interested in buying an IPL team.”

Modi’s brother-in-law Suresh Chellaram own more stake in the Rajasthan Royals than Manoj Badale, which could be the reason behind this call.
