As Adam Milne’s injury ruled him out of the squad of Mumbai Indians. The franchise also not able to get Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga’s service due to Sri Lanka’s domestic league. Earlier Malinga had said that he will be unavailable for the first six games of the IPL this year. However, the latest news is that Malinga will join the team on March 24.
Mumbai Indians will start their IPL 2019 journey on Sunday against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede. Malinga’s absence was due to the tournament arranged by the Sri Lanka Cricket. Which is mandatory for all the players for the selection of upcoming World Cup, which is scheduled to start from May 30. The domestic tournament of Sri Lanka will run from the 4th to 11th of April.

However, Mahela Jayawardene, the Mumbai Indians coach had earlier said, the management didn’t have any information about the domestic tournament during the IPL auction. Though Sri Lanka Cricket Board had previously given the permission over Malinga’s play in the IPL and that is why the pacer was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 2 crore.

As the ‘Super Provincial One Day domestic tournament’ becomes a conflict, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has criticized the Sri Lanka Cricket Board for the Malinga’s unavailability as it was not said during the auction. After BCCI has taken the case in their hand, Malinga is expected to join the Mumbai Indians squad on March 25 in Bangalore. But he will not be available during Mumbai’s first game against Delhi Capitals on March 24.
