Delhi Capitals pacer Lungi Ngidi has made a strong return to training after recovering from a scary on-field injury, and his positive body language has given DC a timely boost ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals on May 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. What could have been a worrying setback now looks far less serious, with the South African fast bowler back in action and smiling during practice.

Ngidi looked completely at ease during fielding drills, even completing a clean one-handed catch while running backwards. The moment stood out because it mirrored the effort that led to his earlier injury against the Punjab Kings.
This time, though, he timed it perfectly, held on comfortably, and shared a light laugh with teammates afterwards. Delhi Capitals later posted the video on social media with a clever reference to his first name, Lungisani, which means โrectify and set things rightโ in Zulu.

The earlier incident had sparked genuine concern. While Axar Patel was bowling, Priyansh Arya miscued a shot high into the air, and Lungi Ngidi tracked it while moving backwards. As he tried to complete the catch, he lost balance and fell heavily, with his head striking the turf. He immediately appeared in discomfort, and medical staff rushed in before he was stretchered off and taken to the hospital with neck pain and a headache.
There’s a reason why Lungisani means โ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐โ in Zulu ๐ฅน pic.twitter.com/zfXWZSpFWl

Thankfully, Lungi Ngidi later reassured fans that he was fine. He resumed light training on April 30, but his return to competitive cricket will only come after he clears the mandatory concussion recovery process. For the Delhi Capitals, that is still a positive sign, especially at a time when their season has stalled.

DC are currently seventh on the IPL 2026 points table with three wins from eight matches and are on a three-game losing streak. With Rajasthan Royals next on the schedule, the franchise will be hoping Ngidiโs recovery becomes part of a much-needed turnaround.
