Former cricket administrator and CEO of Baroda Cricket Association, Makarand Waingankar, made an intriguing comment about Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw. Shaw’s recent performances have been disappointing, especially in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, where he struggled to score big and often got out for low scores.
Waingankar took to social media to reveal that he had managed to secure a contract for Shaw with Northamptonshire after holding discussions with multiple county sides. However, he couldn’t resist taking a dig at the cricketer, expressing his desire to see Shaw’s bat do the talking rather than his presence on social media.

“With great difficulty, I managed to get a county contract for Prithvi Shaw for Northants after speaking to half a dozen counties. I only hope I get to read about his on-field performance more than his off-field videos,” tweeted Makarand Waingankar.

During the IPL 2023, Shaw represented the Delhi Capitals but had a dismal run, scoring just 106 runs in eight matches at an average of 13.25. Additionally, he made headlines for the wrong reasons due to a “selfie controversy” prior to the tournament. Shaw got into a verbal altercation with a model in Mumbai who wanted to take selfies with him, leading to the damage of a friend’s car by the model and his associates using baseball bats.

Regarding the county contract, Shaw is set to play for Northamptonshire in the County Championship matches and England’s 50-over domestic tournament. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make an official statement regarding this development, but an announcement is expected in the coming weeks.
