Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been the worst-performing team in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. Nothing seems to be going their way and a loss to start the second leg has more or less ended their hopes of making it to the playoffs. Among many problems the team has faced this season, one has been the opening slot. David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha were seen opening together in the game against Delhi Capitals (DC) which they lost.

However, former England cricketer Mark Butcher feels SRH can’t have someone like Saha to open the innings. The Bengal wicketkeeper has featured in three matches this season so far and returned with the scores of 7, 1, and 18. While Butcher lauded Saha for being an excellent wicket-keeper, he is not convinced with the latter being the opener of SRH.

As per the quotes in crikcet.com., Mark Butcher said, “As an IPL franchise, if the best you can do is Wriddhiman Saha, who is a terrific wicketkeeper, decent batter. But if that’s the best you can do at the top of the order, then you are setting yourself up for big trouble.”

Another team struggling in the IPL despite having some brilliant players is Punjab Kings (PBKS). Mark Butcher took a dig at the franchise as he feels that only changing the name of the team doesn’t change the fortunes. Punjab lost the match from an absolutely winning position against Rajasthan Royals as they failed to score 8 runs in last two overs.

Elaborating the same, Mark Butcher said, “As far as Punjab Kings are concerned, just changing your name is not going to help. I’m afraid you’ve got to do something more fundamental than that. Punjab Kings have become the masters of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. But people are thinking they’ve turned a corner.”

He further added, “KL Rahul is making runs, they’ve made some excellent all-round signing from the CPL. It’s just a little bit lightweight than what rest of the teams are calling upon.”
