Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) fiery pacer Mayank Yadav made a big impact at the Wankhede Stadium, dismissing Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya in their crucial IPL 2025 encounter. Known for his pace and precision, Mayank bowled a beauty that crashed through Pandya’s defences, a vital breakthrough for the visitors.

Drafted into the playing XI in place of Shardul Thakur, who had just one wicket in his last three games, Mayank repaid the team’s faith instantly. While Shardul has picked up 12 wickets in nine matches this season, Mayank’s 2024 numbers (seven wickets in four games at an economy of 6.98) justified the swap.

The turning moment came on the very first ball of the 16th over. Mayank delivered a good-length ball that tailed sharply into Pandya. Looking to drive down the ground, the MI captain misjudged the late movement. The ball sneaked through bat and pad, gently brushing the leg bail. Pandya had to walk back for a disappointing 5 off 7 balls, leaving MI wobbling at 157/5.

Earlier, Mayank had already made his presence felt by removing Rohit Sharma in the third over, making it a memorable night for the young pacer. He finished with figures of 2/40 from his four overs, providing crucial dents in MI’s innings.
Despite the double blow, Mumbai managed to post a competitive 215/7, thanks largely to Ryan Rickelton’s blazing 58 off 32 balls. Digvesh Singh Rathi and Avesh Khan also contributed with a wicket each for LSG, although they were slightly expensive.

Mumbai came into the game riding a four-match winning streak but still searching for a home win over LSG, having lost 6 of their previous 7 meetings. Meanwhile, LSG were eager to bounce back after a setback against Delhi Capitals.
