MCA Postpones All Matches Until May 3 amid Lockdown Extension

The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has affected the world severely. It has brought the world to a standstill with many countries being completely lockdown for safety and to contain the spread of the virus. Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate with many international and domestic matches canceled.

The Indian government had implemented a 3-week lockdown as a precautionary measure and to contain the spread of the novel virus. The lockdown was expected to end on April 15. However, On Tuesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in a video conference from isolation. The Prime minister of India announced the extension of nationwide until May 3.

Following the Indian Prime Minister’s speech, The Mumbai Cricket Association announced its decision to postpone all its matches until the nationwide lockdown is implied. This means the MCA will not organize any of its games until May 3.

Earlier, the MCA had announced the postponement of all the local matches Until April 14. However, there has been an additional delay in the same because of the COVID-19 lockdown across India.

In a media release by MCA, the statement read, “The Mumbai Cricket Association has decided to postpone all matches, which were scheduled to be played between March 14 and May 3, due to the ongoing COVID-19pandemic.”

The MCA’s office, located inside the Wankhede Stadium is also set to remain closed till May 3 as long as the lockdown goes until further notice.

The pandemic spread of the COVID-19 Virus has affected more than 11,555  people in India with 396 dead. Originated in China, the virus has now affected more than 2,000,730 people taking 126,776 lives.
