Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been admitted to a local hospital after suffering a concussion during the second ODI against Australia in Dhaka. Despite being struck on the helmet by a fierce bouncer, the all-rounder courageously continued batting and played a decisive role in Bangladesh’s historic series-clinching victory. The incident occurred during Bangladesh’s chase of a revised 188-run target on Thursday, June 11. In the 34th over,

Australian fast bowler Riley Meredith delivered a short ball that struck the side of Miraz’s helmet. The Bangladesh skipper immediately showed signs of discomfort, dropping to his knees and requiring medical attention on the field. A concussion assessment was conducted by the medical staff, with television footage showing Miraz visibly struggling during treatment. The Australian team doctor also assisted in the evaluation, while a stretcher was brought onto the ground as a precaution. However, after being checked, Miraz chose to continue his innings during a crucial phase of the run chase.
Following the match, Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed that the captain had suffered a concussion and was taken to hospital for further examination and observation. “Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a concussion during the match today. He continued to play after being assessed in the middle. We have taken him to the hospital to assess the remaining signs and for general observation. He will be there for the next 24 hours,” Khan said.

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed praised his skipper’s bravery and composure under pressure. “It was incredible of Miraz to bat in that condition. I think he took a quick decision that if he walks off, the new batter could be prone to making a mistake in that pressure situation,” Taskin said.
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh’s bowlers laid the foundation for victory. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman claimed three wickets each as Australia recovered from 0/3 to post 187/8 in their allotted overs.

The hosts successfully chased down the target to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. While Miraz is reportedly out of immediate danger, he is expected to remain under medical supervision as part of standard concussion protocols. Bangladesh are likely to rest their captain for the third ODI, with Najmul Hossain Shanto expected to lead the side. However, there is optimism that Miraz will recover in time for the upcoming T20I series against Australia.
