Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes the England cricket team might have lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026 if they had a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah in their lineup. Vaughan made the remark while discussing Bumrah’s extraordinary impact on modern cricket during an episode of the ‘Stick To Cricket’ podcast, later sharing the clip on social media.

Speaking about the Indian pace spearhead, Vaughan admitted that few bowlers in cricket history have impressed him the way Bumrah has. “And you gotta remember, I started watching cricket probably from the 85–86 when I really started to study the game. He’s the best I’ve seen,” Michael Vaughan said, underlining the immense respect Bumrah commands across the cricketing world.
Former England captain Alastair Cook, who was also part of the conversation, agreed that Bumrah stands out as a rare all-format bowler capable of delivering match-winning spells in any condition or format.

“Is he the best in a match-winning spell in Test match cricket? He’s definitely, without a shadow of doubt, the best all-format bowler,” Alastair Cook said. “You can safely say that, can’t you? In any form, he’s like the best all-round bowler.”
Cook also reflected on whether Bumrah produces the kind of extraordinary single-innings figures sometimes associated with legendary fast bowlers.

“Has he, like in a Test match, bowled spells like 8/15? Or is he not that kind of bowler?” Alastair Cook added during the discussion. Vaughan, however, pointed out that Bumrah has already produced several unforgettable spells, especially in overseas conditions. “I’ve seen him a bit in Australia produce some spells, and he has been just different,” Michael Vaughan said.
Interestingly, it was Bumrah’s India that ended England’s hopes in the 2026 tournament. The India national cricket team defeated England in the semi-final before dominating New Zealand national cricket team in the final. Bumrah played a decisive role in India’s successful campaign. The Indian pacer finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament alongside Varun Chakravarthy, with both bowlers claiming 14 wickets at an average of 12.42 and an impressive economy rate of 6.21.

His tournament also included a memorable four-wicket haul, making him the first fast bowler to register a four-wicket haul in a T20 World Cup knockout match. With 40 wickets in 26 matches, Bumrah is now the most successful pacer in T20 World Cup history, surpassing Lasith Malinga. Having won the trophy twice and consistently delivered match-winning performances, Bumrah’s legacy in T20 World Cups continues to grow stronger with every edition.
