Former England skipper, Michael Vaughan has expressed his displeasure with the Indian all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja not getting the highest-paid contract from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Recently BCCI announced their list of contracted players. In there, only three players, Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma were given the Grade A+ category contract.
The three players thereby will be getting an annual salary of INR 7 crores from the board. On the other hand, Jadeja has been placed in the Grade A category. It was later revealed that Jadeja will be expected to getting a promotion, but was later, not given any. Generally, the highest Grade A+ contract is given to the players who play in all three formats for India.

Since late 2019, Ravindra Jadeja has been playing across the formats for India and has been one of the crucial cogs of the Indian team. According to Vaughan, the star all-rounder should’ve been listed alongside skipper, Virat Kohli. Some of the reports of Cricbuzz suggested that Ravindra was initially discussed for promotion but he wasn’t given a bump in the contract.
Tweeting about the same, Michael Vaughan wrote: “Disgrace … he should be on a the biggest behind Virat.”

According to the report published on Cricbuzz, the fact that Jadeja didn’t get a contract upgrade might have to do with the fact that he hasn’t played enough cricket for the Indian team in recent times. During the Australian tour, he suffered an injury that restricted him from playing the home series against England. He has recently returned to the field of action with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021.

Former Cheif Selector MSK Prasad has also opined that Jadeja should be given the A+ contract. The cricketer’s current pay scale in the Grade A category means that he will get INR 5 crores per annum.
