Sunrisers Hyderabad’s finest batting duo again came together to save them the blushes against Chennai Super Kings at the MCA Stadium, Pune. The pitch at Pune offered some early assistance for the Chennai bowlers and the scoring rate, in the beginning, was poor. Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson again joined forces to stitch a match-saving partnership and took SRH to a very fighting score. CSK needs 180 runs to win.

Deepak Chahar

Earlier in the day, home captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to field first. Chennai had one change in their playing XI from the last match. Deepak Chahar who has overcome his injury replaced Karn Sharma, it was Chahar who had picked up three wickets against SRH the last time these two met. Yusuf Pathan was reported to be sore and he was replaced by Deepak Hooda which was the only change for SRH.

With the ball moving viciously in the air, Deepak Chahar extracted heavy movement and made Dhawan and Hales scrape for runs. He conceded only one run in his opening over but did not get to bowl the third. He was brought back for the fourth over and on cue, he dismissed Alex Hales. MSD then persisted with Chahar and finished his quota of overs giving only 16 runs in four overs.

Shikhar Dhawan.

Once the threat of Chahar was removed, Williamson and Dhawan got their heads down and started raising the tempo slowly. They accumulated the runs and eventually started hitting regular boundaries. The duo was separated after the 123-runs partnership and they were out on back-to-back balls.

Of the rest of the middle order, only Deepak Hooda managed to connect a few and ended with 21 runs from 11 balls. Shikhar Dhawan top-scored 79 runs from 49 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes while Williamson added 51 runs from 39 balls. Shardul Thakur took two wickets for 32 runs.
